Usually, at least amongst my acquaintances, its a matter of add-ons. Firefox has a shitload that actually do make a difference when browsing. In addition, recent benchmarks have shown that the latest versions of firefox and chrome are vastly superior to opera in terms of speed.
Personally, I tried Opera a while back, and wasn't impressed. I missed my themes and add-ons that I have with firefox and chrome, although browsing itself was perfectly usable.
